SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADES
The Grade 7 materials provide a more detailed study of the main parts of speech in the Russian language: nouns (a brief review of material from previous grades), adjectives (short-form adjectives, degrees of comparison, and semantic categories of adjectives), and pronouns (types and classification of pronouns). Work continues on the development of students’ oral language skills. Students learn to describe pictures.
The Grade 8 materials help students further reinforce previously learned material. These materials focus on such parts of speech as verbs (tense, person, number), numerals (types and declension), and adverbs (types and spelling). Students learn to write short descriptive pieces.
NINTH AND TENTH GRADE
The culminating materials for Grades 9 and 10 help students more deeply reinforce all previously studied material and better prepare for official Russian language proficiency exams (ACTFL – American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) и WPT (Writing Proficiency Test)).
The Grade 9 materials, students work with participles and adverbial participles. At the same time, other parts of speech are reviewed, and students learn to write short descriptive pieces. These materials also include articles about the United States and its people, without attempting to present U.S. history in a chronological narrative. It is important for our students to learn more about the country in which they live. The Grade 10 materials, like the entire program, help students prepare for the ACTFL exams (oral and written). The results of these exams are recognized at the High School level as well as at higher levels of the U.S. education system. In this class, students continue learning how to independently find information in Russian using additional sources. Significant attention is given to working with students on moral topics and to expanding their vocabulary in this area.
