THIRD AND FOURTH GRADES

The Grade 3 materials are designed to reinforce reading and writing skills. Simple texts are used to cover the following topics:

  • Phonetics (classification of vowels and consonants, soft and hard signs [ь and ъ], syllables, stress, word division at line breaks).
  • Introductory morphology (words naming objects and people; words describing objects; words expressing actions).
  • Question words.
  • Word endings.

By the end of the school year, the student should confidently read a control text, identify voiced and voiceless consonants, write from dictation, know the names of all pictures in the textbook, and retell a short story using action words and descriptive words in the correct form.

The colorful Grade 4 materials introduce the student to the following topics:

  • Noun.
  • Pronoun.
  • Adjective.
  • Verb.

By the end of the school year, the child should confidently read the test text, write from dictation, know the names of all the pictures in the textbook (replacing a noun with a pronoun, describing the noun, and what the noun “can” do), and retell a short story using words in the correct form.

FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADES

The illustrated Grade 5 materials help students master the important topic of word formation (parts of a word: root, prefix, suffix, ending, and stem), as well as the correct spelling of prefixes and suffixes. The course also introduces students to the rules of noun declension by case. Special attention is given to the continued development of students’ oral language skills.

The Grade 6 materials help students review and reinforce previously learned material. Work continues on further developing students’ speaking skills. Lessons on manners at home and in the classroom help the child learn appropriate behavior at home, in public, and in social settings.
